In-House Lab
No matter what time of day, VES is equipped to handle all of your pets immediate lab needs. In addition to having Marshfield Labs on site during the day, Veterinary Emergency Service also maintains an in-house stat lab in our ER clinic to meet the needs of our emergency patients after hours.
Complete Laboratory Diagnostics include but are not limited to:
- Clot time evaluations for rat poison ingestion or liver disease
- Complete blood count (CBC) to detect anemia or signs of infection
- Serum chemistry and electrolyte testing to evaluate organ systems including kidneys, pancreas, and liver
- Specialty tests for Lyme Disease, heartworms, Feline AIDS, Parvovirus and antifreeze poisoning
What do these tests do?
- CBC (complete blood count)
This test shows us your pet's white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet counts as well as assesses hydration. - Serum Chemistries
Chemistries show us more specifically how certain organs are functioning. Depending on the chemistries run, we can assess liver, kidney, pancreas, and thyroid functionality, among others. - Electrolytes
Electrolytes imbalances can affect the heart and muscles. Imbalances can also alert us to certain endocrine diseases. - T4 (Thyroid)
This test shows us the level of thyroid hormone in your pet and can help diagnose diseases like hypothyroidism in dogs and hyperthyroidism in cats. - SpecCPL
This is a specific blood test that shows us if your pet has pancreatitis. - FeLV/FIV
This combo test for our feline patients shows us if your cat is infected with the Feline Leukemia Virus or Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (aka Feline AIDS). - Fecal Flotation
A small sample of stool can show us if your pet has any intestinal parasites such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and coccidia. - Urinalysis
A small amount of urine usually taken through cystocentesis, can show us kidney function, presense of diabetes, and urinary tract infections.
