" I enjoy the fast pace and the case variety of Critical Care Medicine, but the most important part of the job for me -the reason we founded VES - lies in the ability to help pets and their owners through difficult times."
Dr. Wirth began his career in small animal general practice from 1993 to 2001. He first became interested in emergency medicine, while working in Boston at a large, small animal general practice. The clinic offered emergency care to patients from northern Boston, southern New Hampshire and southern Maine. His first experience in managing a veterinary practice was at Muddy Creek Veterinary Clinic in 1996. Dr. Wirth moved back to Wisconsin in 1997. He worked in both general small animal practices and several emergency practices in Milwaukee area and Madison. He also worked with property and casualty insurance companies across the country and veterinary practices throughout Wisconsin to establish the first PPO style pet insurance company in the United States. Dr. Wirth saw the need for a new approach to offering veterinary emergency care for household pets in Madison and founded VES in 2003. His professional interests include surgery, ultrasound, endoscopy and complicated critical patients.
When he’s not at the clinic, Dr. Wirth enjoys golfing, skiing, snowboarding, UW athletics, anything outdoors and spending time with his family: his wife Donna (also a vet) and his three kids.
