Biography:

Dr. King first trained in surgery caring from some of the world's premier equine athletes. She started her veterinary surgical career as a large animal surgeon, working at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine. She retrained intensively in small animal surgery in private specialty hospitals with other board certified veterinary surgeons and then worked as the director of surgery at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, WI for 8 years. In that position, she worked closely with critical care specialists to treat trauma and critical patients, with oncologists in the management of cancer patients, and managed a busy surgical practice. She returned to Madison to join VES in 2010.

Dr. King is experienced in both soft tissue procedures and orthopedics and has a special place in her heart for patients and their families who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis. She also enjoys helping pets with cranial cruciate injury, performing TPLO or suture technique as best suits her patients' needs, to get them back to playtime as soon as possible. Skills learned in treating high level equine athletes has prepared her in managing return to function for canine athletes and companions alike after injury and surgical treatment.

For all her patients, pain management is paramount. Minimally invasive procedures, where indicated, and multimodal pain management form the basis for daily care of her patients.
