We are expanding our business and currently seeking compassionate Certified Vet Techs to fill newly created roles within our Oncology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Room Departments.
 
Veterinary Emergency Service & Veterinary Specialty Center is an established 24-hour veterinary facility with three locations in Middleton, Madison, and Janesville. We take pride in providing services in emergency, critical care, and surgery, as well as other advanced service patient care for companion animals and the people who love them. We are a team-oriented work place and our purpose is simple; helping pets. Primarily, we treat small animals such as dogs and cats, pocket pets, and exotics.
 
The individual filling this role will serve as the primary support for our department veterinarians. They will apply both professional and practical knowledge of hospital procedures, policies and services, as well as patient treatment protocols.
 
To be successful in this role, you will need the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Wisconsin license is required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with various audiences; Read and convey information in a concise manner
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and stay focused while multitasking; Organizational skills
  • Compassion for animals including demonstrated interest in caring for, promoting the health of, and fostering the contentment of animals
  • Transcription; Maintain accurate medical records
  • Familiarity with medical nomenclature used in a veterinary hospital
  • Previous experience in a specialty or emergency care environment is preferred

 
The primary objectives of the Internal Medicine CVT include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Follow VES established policies and procedures
  • Provide compassionate care to patients and clients
  • Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner
  • Field questions and inquiries about services, triage, products and treatments
  • Provide knowledgeable advice concerning the care and treatment of animals
  • Know common drugs and protocols and be able to explain them
  • Document legibly and keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy
  • Maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees
  • Prepare and maintain the exam rooms, treatment areas and the procedure room
  • Perform physical assessments; record observations legibly in files or computer
  • Perform nursing duties
  • Admit patients following hospital policy and doctors’ written orders
  • Monitor the progress of cases
  • Discharge patients based on the veterinarian’s orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state
  • Set up and position patients for radiology
  • Set up and assist with procedures
  • Use, clean, maintain, and care for specialized and hospital equipment
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Calculate and administer medications and fluids
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia
  • Perform venipunctures and place IV catheters
  • Perform other duties and assigned including assisting in other areas
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Perform Customer Service Representative duties as necessary
