Additional Specialist in Surgery (PT or FT)
Veterinary Emergency Service / Veterinary Specialty Center (VES/VSC), is a steadily expanding, independently owned Emergency and Specialty hospital group in the Madison, Wisconsin area, looking for a third part time or full time surgeon to join our team!
As our third specialist in small animal surgery at VES/VSC, you will have the full support of our eight board certified specialists and 18 experienced ER veterinarians. Our doctors and staff will work side-by-side with you in a collaborative and encouraging manner to ensure the best outcome for our patients. Our specialties include Anesthesia (1), Critical Care (2), Surgery (2), Internal Medicine (1), Cardiology (1), and Oncology (2). VES/VSC also manages a critical care residency program and rotating internship.
The successful surgeon will work primarily out of our Madison hospital (VES Madison), which is currently undergoing renovation/expansion. Two new surgery suites, surgical procedure room and dedicated oncology suite and internal medicine suites will be installed. VES Madison will have an endoscopy suite, a chemotherapy administration suite with an industry standard biological safety cabinet, and ultrasound (GE logic S7). A multislice CT is housed at VES Middleton, as well as an independent reference laboratory (Marshfield Labs) that treats all our labs as stat requests. Results integrate into our Impromed medical records system. Most results are available within an hour.
Our surgery service has been operating for 9 years and continues to grow. With the highest ER caseload in the region, there is a strong caseload of primary, secondary soft tissue and orthopedic procedures. We are particularly proud of the high oncologic surgery caseload, and we are additionally seeking a third oncologist to join our practice. The surgeon will participate in the surgery on-call rota, however many surgical procedures out of hours are performed by our experienced ER doctors. Specific surgical equipment includes among others, Synthes TPLO equipment, LCP/LCDCP/DCP plates, laparoscopy and arthroscopy, LigaSure, TA/GIA staplers, and hall surgairtome drill.

In addition, our DVM/Hospital managers ensure all staff have a voice.
If you join VES/VSC, you will experience weekly critical care rounds, and a bi-weekly informal journal club and M&M. VES/VSC also hosts CE dinner events to our referring veterinarians monthly. You may be called upon to mentor interns, veterinary students during externships, and we encourage/support clinical research. VES/VSC strongly believes in ongoing community involvement and outreach, and regularly supports local charitable events.
