Dr. Nolan completed his doctorate of veterinary medicine at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. After a one-year internship at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver he returned to Tufts for a three-year residency in small animal internal medicine. In 2009 he received board certification from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Prior to pursuing veterinary medicine, Dr. Nolan had his first career in the chemical sciences. He received his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Colorado State University in 2001, performing research in lithium ion battery technology. During his time in Colorado he became a staunch CSU Ram fan and enjoyed spending time in the mountains; before heading back East to start veterinary school he spent a winter as a ski instructor at Solitude in Utah. At home Dr. Nolan has a large animal family of three dogs (Salty, Alli, Emma) and two cats (Gretchen, Isabelle). He recently moved to Madison with his fiancée, who is also a veterinary internist. They are both new to the Midwest, and are looking forward to exploring the area.
